Frequently Asked
Find answers to the most common questions about our medical services, treatment packages, and your patient journey.
Apera Health Group provides healthcare services to international patients in the fields of stem cell and regenerative medicine, bariatric surgery, and plastic surgery. Treatment planning, hospital organization, accommodation, transfer, interpretation, and post-treatment follow-up are managed within the same comprehensive system.
Our patient coordinator collects your medical history, current complaints, medical reports, and imaging if available. The final eligibility and treatment decision is made by the relevant specialist physician.
Patient coordinators manage the information gathering and organizational process. Medical eligibility, the procedure to be performed, and the treatment method are determined solely through a physician’s evaluation.
Yes. Once your treatment plan is finalized, your physician’s name, field of expertise, and role in the process will be shared with you.
You may state your preference. The matching is done by evaluating the physician’s availability, schedule, and the medical requirements of the planned procedure.
Depending on the type of treatment, a video or written preliminary evaluation can be conducted. However, for certain procedures, the final decision is made after a face-to-face examination and tests in Istanbul.
Treatments are planned in coordination with university hospitals and healthcare facilities that have the appropriate clinical infrastructure, depending on the nature of the procedure.
Your assigned patient coordinator handles the organization between the doctor, hospital, hotel, transfers, interpretation services, and follow-up appointments.
Multilingual coordination and professional medical interpretation are provided depending on the patient’s language and the available team. The language support to be offered is confirmed prior to booking.
Medical reports, photographs, and contact information are shared only with authorized teams for the purposes of evaluation, treatment planning, and legal obligations.
Packages are customized according to the patient’s procedure and needs. Therefore, rather than using a general “all-inclusive” phrase, the quotation document explicitly lists the services that are included and excluded.
Depending on the package, some or all of the following services may be included:
Doctor and surgeon services
Hospital and operating room expenses
Anesthesia
Standard pre-operative tests
Hospital stay
Accommodation in a four-star health hotel
Airport, hotel, and hospital transfers
Medical interpretation
Patient coordination
Standard follow-up appointments
Dietitian support for bariatric patients
Atera fit products (if specified in the package) The exact scope is detailed in the written quotation provided to the patient.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing, flight tickets are the patient’s responsibility.
A companion’s hotel, transfer, meals, and other expenses vary depending on the package. Patients arriving with a companion must inform us prior to booking.
Standard medications used during the hospital stay may be included in the package. Post-discharge prescriptions, special medications, and long-term treatments may be charged separately.
If a previously unknown health issue is detected during tests, additional examinations, tests, or treatments may be required. These procedures may fall outside the package, and cost information will be shared before obtaining the patient’s consent.
The number of nights specified in the package is included. Early arrivals, late departures, or stays extended for medical reasons are evaluated separately.
The medical management of complications is carried out promptly. However, the financial coverage of extra treatments, prolonged hospitalization, re-operation, and additional accommodation may vary depending on the package, contract, insurance, and the nature of the complication. This should be clearly stated in the contract.
Whether a revision is necessary is evaluated by the physician. Surgical fees, hospital, anesthesia, accommodation, and transportation terms are separately explained in the revision policy.
The price is determined based on the procedure to be performed, the patient’s health status, hospital selection, surgeon, length of stay, accommodation, and additional services.
A written quotation is prepared after the preliminary evaluation. However, if a new situation arises during tests in Istanbul that alters the treatment plan, the price may be re-evaluated.
The payment timing, currency, accepted payment methods, and cancellation terms must be communicated to the patient in writing.
Many standard travel policies may exclude planned medical procedures and their associated complications. Patients are advised to check their policies and, if necessary, obtain specialized medical travel insurance that covers planned treatments and complications.
Suitability is not determined solely by weight. Body mass index, obesity-related illnesses, previous weight loss attempts, psychological status, and the capacity to adhere to post-operative rules are evaluated together.
Rather than a strict age limit, the patient’s general health, surgical risk, and expected benefits are evaluated. Different medical criteria apply to children, adolescents, and elderly patients.
This decision is made by the surgeon, taking into account your body mass index, reflux, diabetes, dietary habits, previous surgeries, and metabolic condition.
In a sleeve gastrectomy, a large portion of the stomach is removed to create a smaller, tube-shaped stomach. The exact technique depends on the surgeon’s evaluation.
While technically possible to reverse in some cases through another surgical intervention, bariatric surgeries should not be considered temporary or easily reversible procedures.
Revision may be considered in cases of weight regain, reflux, insufficient weight loss, or surgical complications. Past surgical records, an endoscopy, and necessary imaging are reviewed first.
Bariatric surgery can significantly improve blood sugar control in some patients and reduce the need for medication. However, a guarantee that “diabetes will completely disappear” cannot be provided.
Expected weight loss varies depending on the surgery type, starting weight, metabolic condition, diet, and physical activity. A personalized estimate is provided by the surgeon and dietitian.
Blood tests, an anesthesia evaluation, electrocardiography, imaging, and, when necessary, endoscopy and consultations with relevant medical branches may be planned.
The duration is determined by the surgeon based on the surgery and your health status. A fixed statement like “quitting one week before surgery is sufficient” should not be used.
Blood thinners, diabetes medications, weight-loss injections, and other drugs should only be adjusted under a doctor’s instruction. Patients must not stop medications on their own.
Past surgical records, current medications, chronic illnesses, allergies, recent blood test results, and any endoscopy or imaging reports should be sent.
Patients using a CPAP machine for sleep apnea must bring their devices and settings information with them.
The length of stay varies based on the type of surgery and the patient’s clinical condition. The exact duration is determined by the surgeon.
In suitable patients, early mobilization is initiated under the supervision of the medical team to reduce the risk of clots and respiratory complications.
The flight date must be approved by the surgeon, taking into account the type of surgery, recovery status, and clot risk.
Return times differ for desk jobs and physical labor. While many patients can return to daily life within a few weeks, personal medical approval is required.
Bleeding, leaks, infections, blood clots, anesthesia complications, reflux, and nutritional deficiencies may occur. Risks must be explained to the patient individually prior to the procedure.
Yes. Surgery is a powerful tool, but long-term success depends on diet, exercise, regular check-ups, and behavioral changes.
Rapid weight loss, insufficient protein, and vitamin deficiencies can cause temporary hair loss. Blood tests and a proper nutrition plan are important to manage this.
Depending on the amount of weight lost, age, genetics, and skin elasticity, sagging may occur. Plastic surgery options can be evaluated once the weight stabilizes.
Pregnancy is generally not recommended until the rapid weight loss phase is complete. Pregnancy plans should be made in consultation with the surgeon, obstetrician, and dietitian.
Nutrition usually consists of liquid, puree, soft food, and solid food stages. Transition dates are determined based on the patient’s condition and the dietitian’s approval.
Depending on the surgery type, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and other supplements may be required long-term or for life. Needs are determined through regular blood tests.
Atera fit is a product line of proteins, probiotics, collagen, and multivitamins developed by Apera, specifically tailored to the nutritional needs of bariatric patients.
Which products will be provided, in what quantities, and for how long are clearly detailed in your personalized package.
No. Product selection, start time, and dosage should be determined through evaluation by a surgeon or dietitian.
It covers monitoring weight progress, evaluating blood test results, updating the nutrition plan, and ensuring healthy habits become sustainable.
Check-ups can be maintained via video calls, messaging, and sharing updated weight information and blood test results.
Your medical history, medications, expectations, and photographs are reviewed. The final decision is made after a face-to-face examination with the surgeon.
Photographs help with preliminary evaluation but do not provide a definitive plan or guarantee of the final result.
Some procedures can be combined. However, if the operation time and risks increase, procedures may be divided into separate dates for safety purposes.
In medicine and plastic surgery, a specific appearance cannot be guaranteed. The targeted outcome must be realistically explained by the surgeon.
Every surgical incision leaves a scar. The surgeon places incisions in natural folds or low-visibility areas whenever possible.
It can take weeks or months for swelling to subside and tissues to settle. The duration varies depending on the procedure.
Flight clearance must be given by the surgeon based on the procedure performed, clot risk, wound condition, and recovery progress.
Corsets may be recommended for liposuction, tummy tucks, breast surgeries, and body contouring procedures. The duration of use is determined by the surgeon.
Drains may be used depending on the procedure and the surgeon’s technique. Removal time is determined during check-ups.
Photographs and symptoms should be sent to the coordination team. In the event of an emergency, you will be directed to apply to the nearest healthcare facility in your country.
No. In addition to the nose’s appearance, functional adjustments can be made to address septal deviation or airway issues.
Temporary congestion may occur in the first few days due to swelling and splints. Prolonged breathing issues should be reported to the physician.
The timeframe is determined by the surgeon to avoid applying pressure to the nasal bones.
Temporary blurriness, dryness, or swelling may occur. A significant decrease in vision or severe pain requires immediate evaluation.
Suitability is evaluated based on ear development, health status, and expectations.
In suitable patients, it can be planned together with a facelift, eyelid surgery, or liposuction.
Implants, a lift, or a combination of both may be recommended after evaluating volume loss, degree of sagging, breast tissue, and your expectations.
Yes. The implant’s manufacturer, model, size, and warranty documents must be shared before the surgery.
It cannot be said that implants must definitely be replaced on a specific date; however, lifelong monitoring is required, and replacement may be necessary if a problem develops.
Many patients can breastfeed; however, the technique used, incision location, and personal anatomy can affect breastfeeding capacity.
Depending on the method used, scars may remain around the nipple, in a vertical line, or under the breast fold.
Yes, but the imaging center must be informed about the implants or previous surgeries.
No. Liposuction is applied to shape localized fat deposits and is not a substitute for obesity treatment.
Liposuction reduces fat tissue. A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) involves the removal of excess skin and, if necessary, the repair of weakened abdominal muscles.
Pregnancy is possible, but it may affect the results. Patients planning a pregnancy in the near future should discuss this with the surgeon.
It is expected that weight has stabilized for a certain period, nutritional values are adequate, and overall health is suitable for surgery.
They can be planned together or in separate stages after evaluating operation time and safety.
It may recur if underlying hormonal issues, certain medications, weight gain, or substance use continue.
Stem cell and regenerative medicine applications are a broad field covering the use of cells, tissues, or biological products derived from them for specific medical purposes. Not every application is the same.
No. Bone marrow or blood stem cell transplantation is a separate treatment used for specific blood and immune system diseases. Regenerative medicine applications may involve different cell types and methods.
Only areas that are genuinely offered, comply with relevant legislation, and are evaluated by physicians should be listed on the website. Broad claims like “cures many diseases” must not be used.
No. The diagnosis, disease stage, previous treatments, age, general health status, and expected benefit-risk balance are evaluated.
Whether the cells to be used are derived from the patient themselves, a donor, or another source must be clearly stated before treatment.
This question must be answered based on the specific application. The source of the cells used and ethical/licensing information must be provided to the patient in writing.
The name of the laboratory where the cells are processed, its authorizations, quality standards, transport conditions, and product documents must be explained to the patient.
Approval varies by cell type, product, intended use, and country. A product being approved for one disease does not mean it can be used for all other diseases.
No. Registering a study in a research database does not inherently prove that the treatment is effective or licensed.
Diagnosis reports, imaging, laboratory results, current medications, past surgeries, and the existing treatment plan are reviewed.
The cells or products can be administered intravenously, intra-articularly (into a joint), via local injection, or through another method. The method should only be explained according to the planned treatment.
Depending on the application method, local anesthesia, sedation, or an unanesthetized procedure may be planned.
There is no fixed number of sessions. It is determined by the diagnosis, the product, the application method, and clinical response.
Some applications can be done on an outpatient basis, while others may require observation or hospitalization.
Response times vary depending on the disease and application. The patient should not be given a guaranteed timeline or date.
Scientific data regarding longevity should be shared on a disease and product basis. The same result cannot be expected in every patient.
The decision to repeat is made based on the outcome of the initial application, safety findings, and physician evaluation.
No. No personal outcome guarantees should be given for any cellular therapy.
Depending on the product and application method, risks such as infection, immune reaction, blood clots, application site complications, undesired cell behavior, and theoretical tumor risk may be evaluated. The EMA states that risks such as production inconsistency, rejection, and tumor development must be clinically investigated.
Patients with a history of active or past cancer must not be scheduled for procedures without evaluation by relevant oncology specialists.
Suitability for pregnant or breastfeeding patients is evaluated on a treatment-specific basis; many applications may be postponed.
Medication adjustments should only be made by the doctor planning the treatment in coordination with the patient’s current physician.
Yes. Seeking an independent second opinion is strongly encouraged, especially for experimental or advanced cellular therapies.
At a minimum, the following information must be provided in writing:
The source of the cell or product
Intended use
Licensing or research status of the product
Laboratory and quality certificates
Method of application
Expected benefits
Known and theoretical risks
Alternative treatments
Follow-up plan
Total cost

The deposit amount, final payment date, and payment method are specified in the written quotation or contract.
Refunds are calculated based on the cancellation date, reservations made, doctor/hospital scheduling, and contract terms.
For patient safety, the surgery may be canceled or postponed. The refund conditions for test, accommodation, and organizational expenses must be clearly stated in the contract.
The coordination team will plan new dates where possible. Airline-related extra costs depend on the patient’s ticket conditions.
You can reach your doctor, dietitian, or relevant medical team through your assigned coordinator.
No. In cases of severe pain, shortness of breath, heavy bleeding, fainting, high fever, or rapidly worsening conditions, you must go to the nearest emergency room immediately, and then inform the Apera team.
The discharge summary, surgical details, prescriptions, and necessary medical reports must be delivered to the patient digitally or in print.
