Is breast enlargement surgery safe?

Breast enlargement surgery is generally safe, and our experienced cosmetic surgeons have the knowledge and skills to ensure your procedure goes as smoothly as possible and you live comfortably with your implants, with no complications. As for any risks related to breast enlargement surgery, your cosmetic surgeon will talk these through with you at your consultation.

Does breast implant surgery hurt?

You’ll be under general anaesthetic during your surgery, so you won’t feel any pain. Afterwards, you might feel a bit sore for a few days, but taking painkillers should help with this. Once your breasts have healed and your implants have settled, you shouldn’t feel any discomfort.

Can I still breastfeed after getting breast implants?

Yes, you could still be able to breastfeed if you have breast implants. If the incision for your implants was made through your armpit or under your breast, then this is unlikely to affect your ability to breastfeed. However, if you have an incision around your areola, then this might pose a problem. Your cosmetic surgeon will be happy to discuss your options around implant method and breastfeeding.

What type of breast implants do you offer?

At Apera Health Group, we use breast implants from the world’s leading supplier. We offer Motiva and Mentor implants, and your surgeon can advise you on the best option for you. Motiva breast implants: · 5 years capsular contracture cover · Unique Q inside safety technology – next generation of breast implants · BluSeal – patented barrier layer indicator · TrueMonobloc – high performance shell · Choice of two controlled surfaces – velvet or silk. How long does breast enlargement surgery take?

Breast enlargement surgery normally takes between one and two hours under general anaesthetic.

What’s the difference between ‘above the muscle’ and ‘behind the muscle’?

‘Over’ or ‘above the muscle’ procedures involve placing the breast implant in front of your breast muscle, which means it’s more superficial and sits just below the breast tissue. This might be the best option for you if you have some breast tissue already or if you’re restoring fullness to deflated breasts. ‘Under’ or ‘behind the muscle’ refers to an implant that sits behind the breast muscle. This is suitable for patients with very small breasts who have very little breast fat. This method reduces the likelihood of your breast implants showing and gives a more natural looking result but it’s more difficult to place larger implants this way. Your surgeon will discuss with you the results you want to achieve from breast surgery and will advise the best implant placement for your body.

How do I know what size breast implant to choose?

After discussing the look you want to achieve, your surgeon will make his/her recommendations on which size of implant to go for and explain their choice to you. Although your surgeon will be able to give you an estimation of your new breast size based on the implant size and the current size of your breasts, we can’t guarantee exactly what size your breasts will be after surgery.

Can I have a breast uplift with my breast enlargement?

Yes – in fact, if your breasts have lost volume, your surgeon might also recommend having a breast uplift in order to achieve the look you want.

What is ALCL?

Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) is an extremely rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), a cancer involving the cells of the immune system. ALCL can affect 1 in 24,000 patients who have breast implants. It is important to emphasise the extremely low probability of ALCL occurring in patients with breast implants. The majority of cases are easily treated by removing both the implant and the surrounding capsule.

Are there any safety concerns for patients with Motiva Implants with Q Inside Safety Technology?

Motiva Implants® include a microchip embedded in the silicone gel. When scanned by a handheld reader, a unique electronic serial number (ESN) gives healthcare providers and patients access to verify the implants without invasive surgery. The company have released a safety notice regarding the maximum magnetic field a patient can go under when scanned under an MRI. The notice is in relation to a specific MRI scanner, 7 Tesla scan. The 7 Tesla MRI scanner availability is very limited, and mostly used in investigation centres for head and extremities and not the upper chest area. In summary, it is highly unlikely, if not impossible for a patient with Motiva implants to undergo a scan over 3 Tesla. On behalf of Motiva, we would like to inform our patients that have had Motiva implants that it is safe to undergo a scan with a 3 Tesla MRI scanner. There is no significant risk to patients.

Your surgeon will explain to you where the incisions will be made to place your implants; one method leaves a scar under the breast hidden in the crease, or your surgeon might use an approach where the incisions are made around the areola or through the armpit.

Although not permanent, lip filler is an effective way to add fulness to the lips over an extended period, with results usually lasting between 6-12 months. Who will perform the lip filler treatment?

Lip filler injections are only ever administered by our fully qualified, highly trained practitioners, nurses and doctors. All our practitioners are registered with the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners, which means they have the right qualifications and skills to perform your treatment. Our expert team is committed to providing the highest standard of care to patients – so you can book your lip line fillers with confidence, knowing you’re in the best hands.

How do lip fillers work?

So, how do lip fillers work, exactly? Essentially, filler solution is injected beneath the skin, which plumps up the lips and helps to improve definition. The types of lip fillers we use at Transform are made of hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring acid that our skin cells produce to keep skin moisturised and healthy. Sometimes our environment, the products we use, and the natural ageing process mean our levels of hyaluronic acid can decrease. This may lead to dry, dull skin, and lines and wrinkles. This is where lip filler injections come in, filling the skin with hyaluronic acid to boost hydration, add volume and improve definition.

What different types of lip fillers do Apera Health Group use?

Here at Apera Health Group, we’re dedicated to offering the highest-quality lip filler injections to our patients. All our products are FDA-approved and are carefully designed by premium brands to make sure you achieve your desired look. They are non-animal and suitable for all different skin types. Please note that these are not permanent lip fillers and the solution will be absorbed naturally by your body over time. For this reason, you may wish to have a lip filler course, separating each treatment by around three to six months to maintain your desired level of volume.

Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear slightly red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment, you may experience what appears to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not re-growing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave if necessary.

What are the possible side effects?

Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. You will have a patch test prior to any treatment.

What causes deep lines and wrinkles, hollows and sunken cheeks?

Over time, your skin slowly loses the collagen that helps to shape and support it. What is the difference between a HydraFacial treatment or Microdermabrasion?

HydraFacial and Microdermabrasion are both skin resurfacing treatments that remove dead skin cells and impurities from your skin. Microdermabrasion is quite abrasive on the skin using a rough tip to resurface the skin, it can cause a rough pulling effect on the skin which can cause redness or inflammation post-treatment. HydraFacial, however, is very gentle on the skin and uses vortex technology which uses a liquid to lift off dead skin cells, dirt, and oil from your skin. HydraFacial is often referred to as a total rejuvenation treatment as it combines various procedures in one session, including cleansing, exfoliation, serum infusion, lympathic massage and LED light therapy to create an overall effective yet gentle effect on your skin, whereas Microdermabrasion is just one procedure.

What is IPL hair removal and how does it differ from laser hair removal?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology is not a laser treatment, as it uses a broad spectrum of light to heat and destroy the hair follicle at the root, preventing it from regrowing. Laser hair removal heats and destroys the follicles in the skin using a powerful laser that emits precisely controlled pulses of energy.

Can you treat my skin type?

Hair that is a darker pigment than the skin is most effective when treated with laser hair removal. Your medical aesthetic practitioner will advise you at your consultation as to whether you are a suitable candidate for the treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people require six to eight sessions of laser hair removal to get the results they want, and annual top up treatments may be required to maintain the results. Typically, it is best to remove hair which is in the active growth stage and not all hair is in that phase at the same time, so the interval between laser hair removal treatments is between 4-6 weeks. You will notice that the regrowth becomes sparser each time.

Will the hair grow back after my treatment?

You’ll notice that your hair grows back finer with each laser hair removal session, reducing by approximately 10-15% with each treatment until it disappears entirely. We recommend a top-up treatment once a year to maintain the smooth results.

When should I plan laser hair removal treatments?

Winter is the best time to have laser hair removal treatment because it's easier to avoid direct sunlight, which can damage sensitised skin. However, you can have laser hair treatment or top-ups at any time of year, as long as you don't have a tan. As it takes several months to fully complete a course of treatment, it's important to plan ahead, so if you want hair-free skin in time for summer, you probably need to book your first session in the winter months.

Do I need to avoid sunlight after my treatment?

You'll need to keep the treated area out of the sun for approximately two weeks before and after your laser hair removal course, depending on your skin type. Your practitioner will advise you on what precautions you need to take and for how long. For darker skins, you may need to avoid sunlight for six weeks before and after your treatment to avoid marks appearing on your skin.

Do I need to prepare before having laser hair removal?

For your first consultation and patch test, you should leave hair unshaven so that the practitioner can properly assess the hair and take accurate before photos. After that, we advise that you shave before each treatment session.

What happens during gastric sleeve surgery?

Gastric sleeve surgery is a procedure where most of your stomach is removed, reducing its capacity by up to 90%. It includes the part of the stomach that produces the hormone that affects appetite. As such, your appetite is reduced – as is the amount of food you can eat. The process itself is called laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. 'Laparoscopic' means 'keyhole' – and is where the surgeon makes several small cuts in your stomach. A telescope with a camera will be inserted, along with several small medical instruments which are used to carry out the procedure. If you’re having a total gastrectomy, much of your stomach is removed and the remainder is stapled into the 'sleeve' shape that gives the procedure its name. Your surgeon will also seal blood vessels connected to the part of the stomach that is removed. Once the procedure is complete, the small cuts will be closed using stitches.

How is it different to a gastric bypass?

Both procedures are forms of weight loss surgery which can help you hit your long-term goals. It's often said, though, that a gastric bypass is more complicated. In a sleeve gastrectomy, part of your stomach is removed in a one-step procedure – and it's as simple as that. Gastric bypass surgery, however, involves two steps. The first is the removal of a part of your stomach and small intestine, while the second is to reconnect the two.

What is the difference between a total and a partial gastrectomy?

A gastric sleeve can either be total or partial, depending on you and your specific situation. A total gastrectomy is the most likely option you'll be given, and it involves the total removal of the stomach (apart from the remaining sleeve). In comparison, only part of the stomach is removed in a partial gastrectomy. This is most likely to be carried out if you have a condition such as an ulcer or growth which needs removed.

What are the pros and cons of bariatric sleeve surgery?

Gastric sleeve surgery can completely transform your health and overall quality of life. Most of our patients are successful in losing weight after the procedure. In the UK, research shows the average excess weight loss rate for gastric sleeve patients is 61.5% after 12 months. Losing a significant amount of weight can lead to a happier, more fulfilling life. It can also give you more energy and freedom to enjoy the things you want to do. Not only that – a gastric sleeve can help to treat and reduce the impact of illnesses and medical conditions linked to obesity. But you should always weigh up the benefits against the risks. This form of weight loss surgery is permanent and irreversible, so you can't change your mind once the procedure is performed. And, as with any surgery, there are some potential risks, which we will discuss with you before you make your decision whether to go ahead with treatment.

How much weight can you lose after gastric sleeve surgery?

How much weight you can lose depends on a variety of factors. According to the NHS, more people tend to lose weight faster with a gastric sleeve or bypass than with a gastric band. That is backed up by research from the National Bariatric Surgery Registry, which found the average excess weight loss after 12 months with a gastric sleeve to be 61.5%. In comparison, the figure for a gastric band in the period between 2013 and 2018 was 38.3%. The amount of weight you could lose with a gastric sleeve will vary from person to person. It'll also reflect the amount of effort that you put into changing your lifestyle and eating habits.

BMI for gastric sleeve: To be a suitable candidate, what should mine be?

It's important to remember that a sleeve gastrectomy is a serious operation. But it can also be an effective solution for people who suffer with obesity and have already tried other methods of diet and exercise to no avail. We can let you know if you're suitable during your free consultation. As a guide, however, the operation could be an option if your BMI is 35 or higher. A gastric sleeve may also be suitable if you suffer from a health condition linked to obesity, such as hypertension.

You could return to work within a few weeks too. But there's no set gastric sleeve stomach healing time, and it's always best to always follow the advice of your expert weight loss surgeon.

What can I eat after my operation?

A gastric sleeve is designed to reduce portion sizes, rather than restricting specific food types. There are fewer types of food you'll need to avoid afterwards, especially in comparison with gastric bypass surgery, although some patients may struggle with certain textures like bread or red meat. Our experienced dietitians will let you know what to eat after your surgery to make sure you're getting all the essential vitamins and minerals you need. We'll also advise you about your short-term gastric sleeve diet after surgery, including solid foods and liquid intake during your aftercare period. It's essential that you stick to the diet your specialist advises or you may not achieve the desired results after the operation.

Is drinking alcohol after gastrectomy surgery OK?

For at least one year after your operation, we advise that you avoid drinking alcohol. After this, you should be mindful that your tolerance is likely to reduce. While consuming small quantities of alcohol one year after a gastric sleeve is OK, it's likely you'll absorb alcohol into your bloodstream more quickly than you did before.

What is Dumping Syndrome?

Dumping Syndrome or rapid gastric emptying – is one of the potential risks of gastric sleeve surgery. But it's also relatively common following bariatric procedures that bypass the majority of the stomach. It describes symptoms when food moves too quickly through the stomach and is 'dumped' into the small intestine. Just 1% of patients find their symptoms are hard to manage, however, and the sensation often occurs less as time passes. You'll be fully supported by one of our specialist dietitians after your surgery. This helps ensure that side effects like malnutrition and Dumping Syndrome are avoided as far as possible.

Gastric bypass surgery: What is it and what happens during it?

Gastric bypass surgery is a proven method of weight loss which could be perfect if you've tried other conventional methods without seeing long-term success. We can offer a complete service, including skilled surgeons, specialist dietitians, nurses, and weight loss support team members. We see this as the best way to help you get the best possible results from your weight loss journey. The operation is carried out under general anaesthetic, generally using keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery. This means your surgeon will make several small cuts into your stomach and use a set of small medical instruments that are guided by a telescope equipped with a camera. A stapling device is used to make the pouch at the top of your stomach. The next step is to cut the small intestine and connect to the stomach pouch. The amount of small intestine 'bypassed' will be determined by the weight you want to achieve, and the nutrients required to maintain it. The small cuts will then be closed by your surgeon with stitches or metal clips.

How long does gastric bypass surgery take?

This depends on the patient, the surgeon, and the type of gastric bypass operation. For Roux-en-Y procedures, it normally between 90 minutes and two hours if carried out by keyhole surgery. A mini-loop gastric bypass can be a quicker procedure. If you’re having a gastric band removed at the same time, the operation will usually take longer. But you can discuss this with your surgeon.

What happens after the gastric bypass procedure?

After gastric bypass surgery, you'll only be able to manage smaller portions of food and as a result your body will absorb fewer calories. There will also be changes in your gut hormones that will lead to reduced feelings of hunger, so you should feel satisfied for longer on smaller portions. As with any weight loss, a healthy diet and regular exercise are needed to ensure you achieve the best results. And this means you'll have to make a few lifestyle changes.

These are just guidelines, however, and every patient is different.

You'll also need regular blood tests to check for any nutritional deficiencies After 2-3 months, most patients are usually back on a varied diet of solid food. Some patients may struggle with certain textures of food, however, such as bread or red meat. In addition, a phenomenon known as Dumping Syndrome can occur if too much sugar is consumed. This results in symptoms such as dizziness, sweating, palpitations, and bloating. Patients often say these symptoms can help stop them from eating too much sugar and enhance weight loss.

What can I drink after gastric bypass surgery?

A gastric bypass won't affect what you can drink, or how much. But it's vital to remember the dietary advice that our team will give you to help achieve your goals. Drinks high in sugar (e.g., colas) or calories (e.g., alcohol) can reduce the weight loss impact of a gastric bypass.

Is there a gastric bypass post-surgery diet to follow?

Our expert team of dietitians will talk to you in detail about what foods you can eat after gastric bypass surgery, and help you make sure you’re getting all the nutrition you need. It’s important you are managing a good protein intake, so our dietitians will advise you on this. Also, because you won’t be able to absorb as many minerals and vitamins after your gastric bypass, you’ll have to take supplements for life and will need regular blood tests to check for any nutritional deficiencies. What’s the difference between SculpSure and Coolsculpting?

While CoolSculpting and SculpSure treatments achieve the same goal – removing fat - the way that this is achieved differs. CoolSculpting removes the fat cells through freezing, and SculpSure removes the fat cells through heat. Coolsculpting treatment takes longer than SculpSure. Most areas of the body will take 35-45 minutes to complete, while SculpSure will take approximately 25 minutes for most areas of the body. Coolsculpting numbs the skin, so the procedure is not painful. It can be the better choice for anyone wishing to remove larger areas of fat. SculpSure uses heat without hurting the skin.

How does CoolSculpting work?

During CoolSculpting, areas of fat are cooled to -11 degrees Celsius using state-of-the-art technology. The cold kills the fat cells in the targeted area without affecting any surrounding tissue. Through its natural processes, your body will then naturally remove these treated fat cells from your body.

Who is suitable for CoolSculpting?

At your consultation, your medical aesthetic practitioner will detail your medical history so that they are able to determine if CoolSculpting will be right for you. In general, though, CoolSculpting treatment is suitable for people who have stubborn areas of fat that refuse to shift through diet and exercise.

How many CoolSculpting treatments will I need?

You will be given detailed advice regarding the number of CoolSculpting treatments you will require at your consultation, but as a guide this depends on which areas are to be treated and the size of the area/s of fat that you are seeking to reduce. For example, treatment on the stomach may take longer than chin fat, as it’s a larger surface area and the fat will be denser.

What is the recovery time for CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting does not require any recovery time, so you will be able to go about your daily activities straight after the procedure.

What is fat freezing?

This is a treatment which involves using a specialist machine to cool areas of fat to -11 degrees Celsius. This safely kills fat cells in the targeted area, which are then naturally processed by your body. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical weight-loss method that involves no needles or anaesthetic – so you can carry on with your day-to-day life straight after treatment.

Does fat freezing work?

Many people wonder does fat freezing really work on stubborn areas? And the answer is yes - this cold freeze fat loss method is an effective way to get rid of fat that won’t shift through normal diet and exercise. The average weight loss for CoolSculpting varies from patient to patient, but the process can provide as much as a 27% reduction of fat.

Is fat freezing treatment safe?

Around the world, more than seven million CoolSculpting treatments have been performed and 52 peer-reviewed papers have assessed its ability to deliver effective and safe treatment. The applicator contains a sensor that automatically shuts down the system if it detects that your skin has dropped below -11 degrees Celsius, ensuring each fat freezing treatment is safe. As with any procedure, there are always potential CoolSculpting risks, however these will be explained in full during your consultation.

What’s the difference between surgical lipo and fat freeze treatment?

Many patients ask us what the difference between lipo and fat freeze treatments are. Essentially, liposuction is a surgical procedure that’s carried out under general anaesthetic, and requires patients to miss up to a week of work to recover from their surgery. Liposuction patients also need to wear compression garments, sometimes for several weeks. Unlike lipo, fat freeze treatments are non-invasive and involve no needles or anaesthesia, and most patients don’t need to take any time off work.

If I have CoolSculpting, how long will it take?

If you choose to have CoolSculpting, how long it takes to complete will depend on the size of the treatment area. To give you a rough idea, fat freezing one area of the body takes an average of 35-45 minutes, though this may be more or less depending on the area being treated. If you want to treat several parts of your body in the same session, such as CoolSculpting your arms, stomach and back, this can take anywhere between one and three hours. As you can’t treat the same area more than once in a session, you may require more than one visit.

Who is suitable for CoolSculpting?

You may be suitable for CoolSculpting in our UK clinics if you have small, stubborn pockets of fat that seem resistant to exercise. However, at your free consultation we’ll ask more questions about your areas of concern, medical history, and why you want the fat freezing treatment, to make sure that it’s the most suitable procedure for you.

How many fat freezing treatments will I need?

The number of fat freezing treatments you need will depend on the area you’re treating and the size of the fatty build-up that you’re trying to reduce. For example, chin fat freezing may take less time than CoolSculpting the stomach, because it’s a smaller surface area. We’ll be able to give you more detailed advice and guidance once you have been assessed at your free consultation.

Are CoolSculpting results permanent?

CoolSculpting and weight loss go hand in hand, as the fat cells destroyed by the machine will not come back. Over a period of three weeks to six months, they are naturally processed and absorbed by your body’s lymphatic system. If you maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly, the results of your fat freezing sessions will be maximised. However, if you follow a poor diet and move less, there is no reason why fat could not build up in the same areas again (this is in extreme cases).

Which areas of my body does CoolSculpting work for?

CoolSculpting can target fat in many areas of the body. Whether you’d like to freeze belly fat, love handles or stubborn areas on your back, or whether you’re interested in CoolSculpting your face, neck, thighs or another area, our experts are here to help you. Around eight-to-12 weeks after hip replacement surgery, you can begin to return to most light activities, but you should avoid any high-impact sports such as cycling and tennis until you have fully healed.

Once you have made a full recovery, you can have a more active lifestyle. Try not to run on hard surfaces at first, avoiding sports such as squash and tennis. You should also avoid sports with a high risk of falling, such as skiing.

HOW MANY HIP REPLACEMENTS CAN YOU HAVE?

Hip revision surgery is not very common but is sometimes needed to replace your artificial joint if it becomes loose, wears out or breaks. This can be a much more complicated operation than your original hip replacement.

Your surgeon will need to remove the original implants, as well as any cement used to hold them in place. Then they will be able to insert the new implants. Some implants are more difficult to remove than others. If your thigh bone has grown onto the implant, this can also lead to the implant being difficult to remove.

As our bones thin as we age, they are more likely to break (fracture). Your surgeon might need to use a hip replacement part with a longer stem to get a stronger fix into the bone. Your surgeon may have to rebuild the bone in your hip using bone from another part of your body or from your thigh. This is called a bone graft and it may mean that your recover period is extended.

Are metal-on-metal hip implants safe?

Most surgeons no longer use metal-on-metal implants during hip replacement surgery, as they are known to cause problems for some people. Metal debris from the implant can get into the blood, which causes bone loss and loosening of the implant. If you do have a metal-on-metal implant, you should have it checked every year. If you are concerned or if your implant is causing you pain, contact your GP in the first instance.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF HIP REPLACEMENT?

The type of hip replacement that you might have depends on the extent and cause of the damage.

Total hip replacement: also known as full hip replacement, this is where both the ball and socket are removed and replaced with prosthetic parts. It is the most common type of hip replacement surgery.

Partial hip replacement: also called a hemiarthroplasty, this is where only the femoral head (the ball of the hip) is removed and replaced. This is not usually recommended when the cause if damage is a degenerative condition such as arthritis.

Hip resurfacing: this involves reshaping and replacing damaged surfaces of the bone rather than removing them and is usually carried out on younger patients.

WHAT IS THE HIP REPLACEMENT RECOVERY TIME?

After around six weeks of recovery, you should be able to get back to your normal daily activities. However, everyone recovers at their own pace, and this will also depend on your age, fitness level before the operation, and the condition of your hip. Your surgeon will be able to talk you through what your hip replacement surgery recovery time is likely to be.

Many patients ask about walking unaided after a hip replacement and, although everyone is different, this can usually be achieved after around six to eight weeks.

The length of your overall recovery will depend on the extent of your surgery and your individual health. Generally, the total time to recover from hip replacement surgery is up to 12 months.

Over the 6-12 weeks after the procedure, your body will remove the broken down fat cells through its natural process.

SculpSure takes around 25 mins for most areas of the body, while Coolsculpting takes longer, with most areas of the body taking 35-45 mins to complete. SculpSure uses heat without damaging the skin. Coolsculpting numbs the skin and is not painful. Coolsculpting is better for those patients who wish to remove more fat cells.

Can a gastric band be removed?

The gastric band is designed to stay with you for life to assist you in achieving your target weight. However, it can be removed if you want to reverse the procedure.

What are the reasons for removing a band?

Occasionally patients experience problems such as heartburn. If this does not respond to medication, it may be advisable to remove the gastric band and convert to a different procedure. If band slippage or erosion has occurred, this may also require the band to be removed.

What are the options for converting a band?

Some patients decide to convert to a gastric bypass or gastric sleeve to help them to fully achieve their weight loss goals.

What is the difference between a gastric sleeve and a gastric bypass?

The sleeve is a procedure that reduces the stomach size. It is less invasive than the bypass, which involves reducing the stomach size and re-routing and re-connecting the intestines.

How much will the procedure cost?

As a responsible provider of cosmetic surgery, we tailor the treatment specifically around you, as we understand that each individual’s procedure is different. Because of this, thread vein removal costs vary, and we place a great deal of importance on our free face-to-face, no-obligation treatment consultations. Following our consultation process, your medical aesthetics practitioner will provide a detailed pricing overview.

What are thread veins?

Thread veins can appear red, blue or purple, and are generally more visible and larger than normal veins. They can occur anywhere, but are usually found on the face and legs. You might spot them as unconnected lines, or they can appear in a web-like pattern. While they initially may appear to be small, often they can grow larger and become more noticeable.

What causes thread veins?

Thread veins are veins which are damaged and can no longer return blood to the heart and lungs. It is also possible for micro-tears in the vein to release small amounts of blood and cause staining. The damaged veins can cause neighbouring veins to malfunction and stretch, which is why thread veins often get worse over time. Facial thread veins can be caused or exacerbated by rosacea, sun exposure, repeated sneezing and frequent coughing.

Who is most likely to have thread veins?

Women are generally at a greater risk of getting thread veins, but men do sometimes have them too. You are more likely to suffer from them if they already run in your family. Female hormones can increase the risk by softening of the walls and valves of a vein, and the extra blood volume created by pregnancy can also add to the likelihood of getting them. Additional risk factors include injuries or trauma, and some evidence points to prolonged periods of sitting or standing as increasing the risk of thread veins.

How can I prevent them in the first place?

You can reduce the risk of developing thread veins by maintaining a healthy weight and diet, as well as avoiding excessive alcohol and smoking. Make sure you avoid prolonged sun exposure, too, and wear SPF cream at all times, even while in the UK. You should also avoid very hot or very cold water when you are in the bath or shower, and you can improve the blood flow in your legs through the use of compression garments.

How much does a buttock lift cost?

The price of a buttock lift varies between patients, as everyone is different and has their own needs. You will get a personal quote for how much your buttock lift will cost during your initial consultation.

What does a buttock lift involve?

Your surgeon will make an incision at the top of the buttocks, in the hips, groin, or under the buttock cheeks to remove excess skin and pull the remaining skin taut. If required, liposuction can also be used to remove excess fat and/or help streamline the shape of the bottom.

How long does a buttock lift surgery take?

A buttock lift will take around 2 to 3 hours and is performed under general anaesthetic. After your surgery you may need to stay in hospital for 1 night, but this will be discussed with your surgeon.

When can I return to work?

Depending on what you do, we would usually advise you to take 2 weeks off work and avoid driving or lifting for 4 weeks.

Will I have scarring?

There will be some visible scarring following surgery, but this will be minimised by keeping the incision lines within natural contours. Over time, any scars should fade.

How does it work?

The principle of skin needling takes advantage of the body’s natural response to damage or injury, which is to repair itself by regenerating the collagen and elastin fibres. The Dermaroller triggers the self-repair mechanism through hundreds of tiny pin pricks to boost collagen growth.

Are there any side effects?

Following your treatment, your skin may appear red or flushed, which will fade within a few hours. The Dermaroller may leave a few small marks at the most and may leave none, as the needles are extremely fine.

How many treatments do I need?

It is possible to have one Dermaroller treatment with noticeable results, however results can vary from person to person. For optimum results, we recommend a course of 3 sessions, 6 weeks apart.

Is the Dermaroller safe?

Skin needling requires no injections. It is minimally invasive, side effects are unlikely, and the instrument used is 100% sterile.

Can I combine Dermaroller with other treatments?

Yes, Dermaroller works well in combination with other aesthetic treatments such as fillers or anti-wrinkle treatment. Your practitioner can recommend the best combination of treatments for your skin type and personal requirements.

Why should I take weight loss supplements?

There are a number of reasons to take weight loss supplements. Following a weight loss procedure, you can expect to consume less food. As a consequence, it will be difficult to meet your daily nutritional requirements. This places you at risk of developing nutritional deficiencies such as iron, folate, vitamin D, protein and calcium deficiencies. It is vital for your long-term health to understand that your risk of developing various vitamin deficiency related problems will never completely go away, so supplements are a great option to look after your health and wellbeing.

Why should I use weight loss scar products?

When skin is wounded due to surgery or other trauma, scar tissue develops as part of the body’s natural healing process. The formation of scar tissue is a complex process, which begins when the dermis (the middle layer of skin) is torn due to the injury. Scar treatment products can be used as part of your long-term scar management plan. Options can be discussed with your surgeon and surgeon assistant.

Where can I get access to weight loss products?

All of our products can be ordered by getting in touch or by placing an order with your weight loss advisor.

You might feel okay doing light exercise after three weeks but should wait at least six weeks before taking part in any strenuous activity or heavy lifting.

SHOULD I HAVE OPEN OR KEYHOLE HERNIA SURGERY?

The exact hernia repair method your surgeon uses will depend on the nature of your hernia, including its location, type and severity. When you meet your surgeon during your free consultation, they will discuss whether open or keyhole hernia surgery is best for you and explain which method they will use.

What are the side effects of hernia repair surgery?

Immediately after the procedure, you might feel sore and bruised. This is a normal side effect of hernia surgery and can be managed with appropriate pain medication. You’ll be able to ask any questions you might have about the side effects and possible complications of hernia repair during your consultations with us.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF HERNIA?

There are several main types of hernia:
• Inguinal hernia – Inguinal hernia surgery focuses on hernias that pass between the inguinal canals in the anterior abdominal wall. The most common type of hernia, they occur between the uterus and abdomen in women, and the abdomen and scrotum in men. They affect 3% of women and 27% of men, according to a 2017 study. This hernia must be operated on and repaired.
• Incisional hernia – Incisional hernias typically happen because of surgery, with the affected organs pushing through areas of the abdomen weakened by an operation. According to Mount Sinai Hospital, 15-20% of hernias are incisional. This hernia must also be operated on.
• Femoral hernia – Femoral hernia repair is required when part of the bowel or the fatty tissue close to it moves into your groin towards the top of your thigh. The University of California Gastrointestinal Surgery Department notes that femoral hernias make up 3% of all hernias but are 10 times more common in women than men. These hernias can go unnoticed but must be quickly operated on if they restrict blood flow.
• Epigastric hernia – Epigastric hernias affect the top of the anterior abdominal wall. They can give rise to symptoms like pain, bulging, nausea and vomiting or be asymptomatic. This hernia must be operated on.
• Umbilical hernia – Affecting both babies and adults, umbilical hernias occur on or around the belly button. These hernias are quite common among newborns.
• Hiatal hernia – Hiatal hernia repair focuses on hernias forcing their way between the diaphragm and oesophagus, causing indigestion and heartburn. These hernias can sometimes go away on their own but often require surgery.

IS HERNIA REPAIR SURGERY PAINFUL?

Whether you have open or keyhole hernia surgery, it is unlikely to be painful or uncomfortable during the procedure. That is because your medical staff will use either general anaesthetic (where you are not awake for the procedure) or local anaesthetic (where the site of the surgery is numbed) while they operate. Afterwards, you may experience some pain at the site of your hernia surgery. This can be reduced with pain relief medication and will fade as you heal.
