Hair transplant is a popular cosmetic surgery which evolves rapidly. New technology reduces operation times and helps with less scarring. It also impacts the patient experience. DHI method (Direct Hair Implantation) has a lot of benefits that patients like. At Apera Clinic, we also perform DHI hair transplants if the patient would like to have so and if they're eligible. What is a DHI hair transplant?
DHI hair transplant is a new method in hair transplant which includes a tool called Choi-pen. Choi-pen is an advanced tool that can open up the canals on the bald area while inserting the new hair follicles. This method allows the hair transplant operation to become a two-step procedure compared to FUE.
An FUE hair transplant has three steps: Hair Graft Collection, Canal Opening and Hair Graft Transplant. Thanks to the Choi-pen, a DHI hair transplant has two steps: Hair Graft Collection and Canal Opening & Hair Graft Transplant at the same time. However, just because there is one less step; doesn't necessarily mean a shorter operation time.
Hair graft collection, anaesthesia and recovery are the same for both FUE and DHI methods. We use local anaesthesia to numb the areas we're operating on and provide pain killers through the IV. That's why it's crucial to inform us if you're allergic to any medications or if the patient has any heart and blood circulation-related problems.
How can I know if I'm eligible for a DHI Hair Transplant?
If a patient needs less than 2500 hair grafts to cover their bald area, which has to be the front hairline, they can have their hair transplanted with the DHI method. Unfortunately, there is no way for a patient to determine their eligibility on their own. A hair transplant expert must see the patient from all angles (either online or in person) to decide if DHI is applicable.
DHI method is also widely preferred because patients do not have to shave their hair before the operation. Since this method is only applicable to the front hairline, patients don't have to shave all of their hair, unlike filling the crown area.
Cost of a DHI Hair Transplant in Turkey
Just like in other hair loss treatments and plastic surgeries, there isn't a fixed cost for a DHI treatment. However, you might expect DHI to have a higher fee than an FUE hair transplant. The reason behind this difference is the experience surgeons need to have to use the Choi-pen effectively. In addition, the clinic expenses and medications also have a part in the cost. It is best to ask for offers from multiple clinics and review them before deciding on a clinic or a treatment.
At Apera Clinic, we offer all-inclusive packages for our patients. Thus, they don't have to worry about finding suitable accommodation and arranging their transport from the hotel to the clinic. We take care of everything, except the flight tickets, once our patients land in Turkey.
Top 5 Frequently Asked Questions About DHI
1. Is DHI better than FUE?
It's not logical to compare these methods for superiority, as they're used to treat different hair loss types. If the patient needs more than 2500 hair grafts to fill the bold area, the DHI method will not fulfil the patient's needs. Thus, it's up to the experts to decide which method is more suitable for each patient. For more information, click here to read about FUE hair transplants.
2. Is DHI hair transplant painful?
The patients do not feel any pain as they take anaesthesia before the operation. At Apera Clinic, we always check with our patients if anything gives them pain. Since we're using local anaesthesia, it's possible to add more anaesthesia in a specific area, if the patient feels any pain at any moment.
3. Can I wear a hat after the DHI hair transplant?
We recommend waiting at least ten days before wearing a hat/cap or any garment that can contact the operated area.
4. When can I sleep normally after a hair transplant?
We advise all hair transplant patients (FUE or DHI doesn't matter) to sleep on their backs for the first ten days after the operation. The reason is to eliminate contact in the operated area as much as possible. After the ten-day mark, patients can sleep however they're comfortable.
5. How soon can I go back to work after the DHI hair transplant?
Patients can return to their jobs within just a few days after the operation. However, they should rest their heads as much as they can to avoid swelling coming down to their faces. If the job requires physical labour, then it's best to wait ten days before returning to work.
